EnglishBCS is a team of educators with expertise, experience, and passion.
We love interacting with international adults and facilitating learning among people.
For many years, we taught English as a Second Language to international students at Texas A&M University’s English Language Institute. This high-quality intensive English program earned the highest accreditation from CEA (the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation). When the university closed the English Language Institute (ELI) in May 2017, we believed that the linguistic needs of internationals were being ignored, and that our job was not yet done. We created EnglishBCS as a private school/consulting service to help meet those needs.
There are many wonderful free ESL programs in our community operated by caring people. We do not aim to replace or compete with them, but rather to complement them with something more rigorous and scholarly. Our target audience is educated adults with academic and professional goals who speak English as a second (or third, or fourth) language.
The BCS in our name stands for Bryan/College Station. These two sister cities are our home. We are a local school who values the international people who live here. Because we are local, our instruction is face to face, not online. We aim to create a friendly and respectful multicultural community.
Every EnglishBCS teacher is a former faculty member of Texas A&M University with a Master’s degree, years of experience teaching English to international students, and participation in professional development, such as membership in the international professional association TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
You can help us reach our goal of providing English language support to the international adults who live in our community. One way is by completing this questionnaire:
so that we can plan classes, workshops, and field trips that match the needs and preferences of English language learners. Another way is to publicize EnglishBCS classes and workshops by social media, your company’s bulletin board, etc. A third way is to sponsor an EnglishBCS student with a scholarship. Lastly, if you would like to volunteer as a conversation partner, please contact us.
